Sølvkre : Besatt
Norwegian black industrial / dark ambient / gravebient
Grimtown Records 2017 (ePorke003)
Besatt is a Norwegian word that translates into posessed, occupied, haunted or obsessed, and this neatly sums up the themes of this album by Sølvkre. It’s harsh, morbid, atmospheric and contemplative.
Sølvkre is a one person project from Gird_09, who has previously released music under that name and Kultur Terror, as well as FRzO and Cult of Twins with his partner Batcheeba. This album is the culmination of more than twenty years as part of the Norwegian music underground, and is available now on multiple platforms.
“Drawing on themes of death the production of the album coincided with the death of my father, something that greatly informed several tracks. Among other things the sound of a medical ventilator can be heard on one of the tracks. I literally used my father’s dying breath as part of my creation.”
Sølvkre has been likened to the Italian film composer Fabio Frizzi, who was responsible for some of the most haunting horror soundtracks of the eighties, as well as the Toru Minegushi and Asuka Ohta’s soundtrack for the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Another common association is Nine Inch Nails.
Sølvkre is the new project from Gird_09, after it was decided that the latter project name would be retired. While a departure from the collage like style of Gird_09 the music remains dark and firmly electronic in nature. Sølvkre is the Norwegian word for silverfish, and the music is half rooted in fascination for creepy crawlies, and half in gothic visions of foggy graveyards and nightmares. This eponymous debut EP contains four tracks of slowly churning ambient music.
Defining your own genre is always tricky, and Sølvkre has elected to use terms such as gravebient and south coast gothic to describe the music. Let us know if you think the description fits the sound.

Our latest compilation is out, and it’s a good one, with a flurry of bands you’ve never heard before.
Which is what we want to give you.
Download it for free from Bandcamp, or stream it.
Yeah, you heard it! For the first time ever we’re doing an open call for contributions. We’re doing a compilation called Litanies of Vindication, and you can be on it. Possibly, you SHOULD in fact be on it. All you need to do is:
1. Record a song that is not utter shit, or in a poppy genre that just doesn’t fit the profile. If we don’t like it, we’re not gonna include it. We’re broad minded though. (Endzeit EBM and nu-metal will not be considered for inclusion.)
2. Send it to Gird_09@grimtownmusic.com in Wav-format. And label the file with your project name and the name of the track. Failure to get it to me in clearly labeled wav-format means you won’t be included, and I won’t bother nagging you to get it right. If you can’t get it right, you’re a moron. Also, we will not master your track.
3. Keep your track under nine minutes, inlcuding silent parts.
4. Do these things by October first. The compilation will be released on the following sunday at http://grimtown.bandcamp.com/
It’s very simple. Now, go do it.
And please let your recording friends know!
Who knows what they worship in there, or even worse, how?
Who knows what sinful secrets of the flesh they share with each other under the patient gaze of their idols?
Who knows what – or even whom they tie to their altars?
